Elodie Details Footmuff Review

Jan 26, 2017

Elodie Details stroller bag

I've been looking for a very warm, yet attractive and feminine footmuff for Little Missy.
The Elodie Details stroller bag in the Bedouin Stories pattern fit the bill perfectly, and so it joined our collection of stroller accessories.

Elodie Details is a Sweedish brand of fashionable baby items, which are sold in over 30 countries. Sadly USA is not yet one of those countries, but will hopefully join the list sometime in the next few years. In the mean time, Elodie products can be imported from the UK and the process is simple and surprisingly speedy. Hopefully, my review of Elodie Details footmuff and matching hat will be helpful to whoever is in the market for these items.

Let me start of by saying that a footmuff is a really great invention! Because it attaches to the stroller, it will not slip down and get caught in the wheels, the way a blanket might. Also, footmuffs are generally weather-proof and much, much warmer than a blanket.

There are many warm footmuffs on the market to choose from, but like I mentioned before, I was craving something out of the ordinary and feminine.

FIRST IMPRESSION

The Elodie Details stroller bags are available in many beautiful colors and patterns. I chose the Bedouin Stories color scheme. This pattern in pastel tones is very refined looking. It consists of pale grey and dusty pink with touches of teal and pale aqua. In one way or another this palette matches most of my strollers and adds some pizzazz.

The footmuff comes in a zip-up bag with handles. Included in the bag is an information card which basically lists all of the footmuff's features.

Elodie Details footmuff review

MEASUREMENTS AND FEATURES

The Elodie Details footmuff is quite generous is size, measuring 100 x 53 cm (39.4 x 20.4 inches). My two year old daughter fits very well into it with plenty of wiggle room.

The outer fabric is 100% polyester, treated with a special BIONIC-FINISH® ECO coating to make it windproof and water-resistant. The inner is lined in soft micro-fleece. The footmuff has a substantial weight and feels very fluffy and warm.

Caring for Elodie Details footmuff is so easy! It is machine washable and can even be tumble-dried at low temperature. I haven't had the chance to test it out in the wash yet, but I love the idea of it being so low maintenance.

The footmuff has openings for a five point harness, making it compatible with most strollers on the market.
There's a zipper on both ends and the top portion can be completely zipped off, leaving the underside as a cozy stroller liner. There's also an option to fold down the cover partially and snaps to keep it in place.

Warmest stroller footmuff review

On the reverse side, there's a pocket at the top, which goes over the stroller backrest and hold the footmuff in place. Some footmuffs from other brands also have a non-slip coating in the back, but this feature was left out on the Elodie footmuff. Truthfully, I don't feel it's necessary in this case. The pocket is effective enough in preventing the footmuff from sliding down.

The elasticized upper is meant to be used as a hood in cold or windy weather, or folded around the stroller's backrest. Since it's pretty shallow, it is only effective as a hood for very small babies.

Elodie Details makes a lot of beautiful accessories to match their stroller bags, including pacifiers, hats, blankets and rain shields. I ordered a winter hat in the same Bedouin Stories pattern to go with the footmuff. The hat is exceptional quality and  very warm. Just like the footmuff, the hat is treated with ecological finish to be weather-proof and is lined in cozy micro-fleece. It runs true to size (Little Missy is wearing size 2-3).

OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE

The first time I zipped up my daughter into the Elodie Detail stroller bag, she was so cozy and content, she went right to sleep. As luck would have it, it started to rain when we were on our nature walk, so I was able to witness the footmuff's water-resistant qualities. The droplets stayed on the surface and did not get absorbed. Little Missy continued sleeping peacefully for two hours, oblivious of the rain. Needless to say, mommy was so pleased!

The only thing that's missing on this stroller bag is an opening at the bottom for the feet, in case you'd want your child to be wearing shoes. Also, keep in mind that because the footmuff is so fluffy, not all strollers would fold with it on.

Other than that, I am perfectly thrilled with the Elodie Details footmuff! It's roomy, very warm, stylish, weather-proof, low maintenance and fits most strollers. Did I mention how beautiful it is?

Mutsy Nexo Stroller Review

Sep 30, 2016

I've been admiring Mutsy strollers for quite some time. The Dutch brand that's been designing strollers since 1937, has recently released a new compact stroller, the Nexo. As you may well know, I adore small strollers, and so I was really looking forward getting my hands on this beauty!

First Impression

The Mutsy Nexo is a smaller brother of the Evo and Igo, and has the distinct, refined Mutsy look. Nexo is a fashionable, petite, stroller with a forward facing seat, small footprint and a super compact fold. It has all the conveniences of a compact stroller, with the adjustability and some extra features typically found on full size strollers.

The Nexo can be used as a travel system with car seat adapters, which are sold separately.

This is a very affordable stroller, retailing for $299. It is available in two beautiful colors; Blue melange and Grey melange. Both colors are accented by cognac color leatherette.

We've been using the Nexo for the past two months and have gotten to know it quite well.
If you haven't done so yet, you can check out my "Nexo Unboxing" and "Out and About With Nexo", picture-full post, before proceeding to the full review.

Dimensions & Weight

  • Stroller Weight - 19.18 lbs
  • Stroller Width - 20" inches
  • Stroller Length - 39.8" inches
  • Folded dimensions - 17.3" x 20" x 25"
  • Handlebar height - 36" to 40"
  • Seat width - 12"
  • Seat depth - 9" (14" with extended leg rest)
  • Seat back height - 20" (24" to canopy)
  • Seat edge to foot rest - 9"

Seat

For a compact stroller, the seat on the Nexo is quite roomy. The width and depth of the seat are perfectly comfortable for both Ben, age 3.5 and Abby, age 20 months. The backrest measures 20" and this is where Ben is close to outgrowing the stroller. While he still fits in the seat, the canopy feels too close to his head.

The seat has a one-hand recline lever which regulates the  strap recline. While the recline is advertised as being a "true flat recline", in actuality it is not completely flat. It is low enough for a newborn, but I just wanted to mention this point for the sake of accuracy.

In the most upright position, the backrest is not completely upright, which sometimes annoys my kids, who usually like to sit up straight, or even lean forward in the stroller. Little Missy hated being strapped in with the shoulder harness because it pulled her back into a semi-reclined position. She tantrumed until I gave up and let her be buckled only with the lower harness straps.

The seat has a leg rest, which adjusts to two positions  and allows kids to stretch out comfortable for a nap. I absolutely love the design of the Nexo leg rest! To pick it up, all you have to do is lift it with your hand and it locks into place. Lowering the leg rest can be done with one hand, by squeezing a metal bar located underneath. This is pretty innovative, as most strollers have two buttons on either side that need to be pressed simultaneously in order to adjust the leg rest.

Another nifty feature is a hidden zipper compartment inside the leg rest. The compartment holds stiff fabric borders, which can be snapped into the inner sides of the stroller, turning the seat into a cozy bassinet of sorts. This extra feature is a really nice addition to the stroller, but of course, even in the bassinet mode, parents need to buckle in their infants in the seat.

The seat also has a beautiful, cognac color, leatherette covered bumper bar with gate opening on both sides. The bumper bar can be removed entirely if necessary. Again, an extra bonus on a compact, affordable stroller.

Some Nexo users complained of the recline lever occasionally popping out of it's bracket. This does not happen on all Nexo strollers, but if you experience it, don't panic. It does not mean that the recline mechanism is broken. All you need to do is slide the toggle back into place.

The straps responsible for supporting the backrest puzzle me. They seem rather flimsy, with one end simply stitched into the side of the seat. I feel that Mutsy could have done better in this area.

Update 10/9/16: Since posting the original review, I've learned that Mutsy has worked on reinforcing the recline straps in the later Nexo productions, making the stitching extra strong. I'm glad!

Canopy

The Nexo has a gorgeous, extendable canopy with a sun visor. There is leatherette detail on the visor, which adds to the posh look of the stroller. The canopy unzips to reveal an extra panel, and when fully extended, provides ample protection from the elements. I really appreciate how the canopy fabric remains well stretched when the hood is open.

The canopy is lined in some sort of a rubberized material, which I'm assuming makes it water-proof, but detracts somewhat from the overall high-end Mutsy look. I also wonder if the rubberized lining makes the canopy less breathable and without any ventilation openings, this may be a concern in hot climates. The back of the canopy is attached to the stroller with a bunch on snaps. I suppose, those can be unsnapped on a hot day if really necessary, but there's no place to attach the extra fabric to keep it out of the way. Plus the snaps are very tight and a pain to open and close. I don't think Mutsy really intended us to do that.

Unfortunately, there's no peek-a-boo window on the canopy. While it's not a huge deal for toddlers, I imagine the lack of peek-a-boo window being disappointing for parents of infants, who'd want to be checking up on their precious bundle.

Textiles/Quality

The seat and canopy textiles looks and feels luxurious. The fabric on the seat is soft and pleasant to the touch, however, it is not as durable as I had hoped. The seat fabric snags easily, so you have to be cautious. I'd recommend using a stroller liner to protect the seat.

The fabric must be spot cleaned, since it's attached to the frame and there's no way to remove it for cleaning.

Harness

Nexo has a 5 point harness that can also be separated into a 3-point for older toddlers. There are 3 shoulder strap height slots and two crotch strap slots. The shoulder strap pads are attached, so they don't slide down. The harness is tag-less, meaning no extra straps hanging down.

The buckle is rather disappointing, as it's very hard to undo. It takes me a few presses and a few good tugs to release both sides of the clip.

Push/Steering

The push on the Nexo is fantastic! On pavement, the stroller is extremely agile and steers effortlessly with one hand. Nexo is equipped with all-wheel suspension which you can feel cushioning the ride and absorbing bumps. Ben, who at age 3.5 never sleeps in strollers anymore, actually passed out in the Nexo, which is a testament to this stroller's soft ride and comfortable seat.

Because Nexo is very narrow and has a small foot-print, it's a pleasure to maneuver in tight spaces. Think small shops, public transportation, post office, etc.

The stroller has good curb pop. Pressing on the handlebar, will raise the front wheels. Actually the curb-pop is a little too good. You don't want to suspend anything heavier than a diaper bag from the handlebar, especially when the seat is reclined, because the Nexo is prone to tipping over when the weight distribution is shifted backwards.

Handlebar

Nexo has a telescopic, leatherette covered handlebar, which can be adjusted to 4 height positions, from 36 inches from the ground to 40 inches. Again , such a range of adjustability is rare on a compact stroller in this price range.

The thread that was used to hand-stitch the leatherette cover is somewhat rough as compared to other strollers that I own with similar stitching.

Wheels/Break

The wheels are made of low maintenance EVA plastic and perform best on city pavement. The front wheels measure 6.5" and the rear wheels are 8".  The front swivel wheels can be locked in a forward only mode, by turning the plastic knob at the joint. In the swiveling mode, the front wheels are quite loose and rattle when going over bumps and cracks in the pavement. This is pretty common, but of course not the ideal scenario.

The wheels are "quick-release" and can be popped off for even more compact storage.

Nexo has a small pedal break on the right side, which locks the rear wheels. The break makes and audible click when engaged.

Under-seat Storage

Due to Mutsy's unique, < shape frame, the under-seat basket is very easy to access on all Mutsy strollers, Nexo included.

Because the Nexo is a compact stroller, the basket is not huge, but it's certainly larger than on your typical umbrella stroller. The basket has a reinforced, hard bottom and can handle a reasonable amount of stuff. I've read some reviews where Nexo owners complained about the durability of the basket, but I think they've underestimated it's full potential. I wouldn't abuse the basket, but I did manage to bring a large box of diapers home in it.

Fold

Nexo has a 2 step fold. It needs to be done with both hands and feels a little awkward at first, but becomes very intuitive with practice. The folded stroller is super compact, making the extra folding step worthwhile. There's a fold lock, but it doesn't always catch, so you need to check up on it and squeeze it into place, before lifting the folded stroller.

The stroller stands on it's wheels when folded and can be rolled along that way as well.

To unfold, you need to locate your fold lock, which is tucked away between the handlebar and the side of the stroller, release the lock, pull out the handlebar and shake the stroller open. You will hear a click when the frame locks into place.

Conclusion & Rating

The Nexo is a gorgeous little stroller that's made with many convenient features. This is a great stroller to use around the city and to take along on trips. The seat, with it's deep recline and adjustable leg rest, is very comfortable for infants and toddlers alike. The compact fold means the stroller doesn't take up too much room in your car trunk. I absolutely love the all-wheel suspension and the superb maneuverability! This stroller really has a lot to offer, considering it's price and it's compact size.

Pros:
1. Small footprint
2. Compact fold
3. Large canopy
4. Roomy seat
5. Almost flat recline
6. Car seat compatible
7. Bassinet-like enclosure stored in leg rest
8. Attractive design with leatherette accents
9. Adjustable leg rest
10. Swing-away bumper bar
11. Adjustable handle bar with 4 height positions
12. Easy to access under-seat basket
13. Great, one hand steering and maneuverability
14. All-wheel suspension

Cons:
1. Flimsy recline mechanism
2. Fabrics are not hard wearing
3. No peek-a-boo window on canopy
4. No ventilation opening
5. Front wheel joints rattle on bumpy pavement
6. Buckle is hard to undo

As you can see, Nexo's great features certainly outweigh the few cons. This could have been a perfect urban stroller, if it didn't come just a tad short in the quality department. I would love to see the Nexo updated in the future with a more robust recline mechanism, a better harness buckle and more durable fabrics.
I decided to give Mutsy Nexo a 4 out of 5 stars rating. Please keep in mind that I have very high standards and only review strollers that I would want to use with my own kids, a category which Nexo surely fits into.

Update 10/9/16:
I'm happy to report that since posting this review, I've learned that Mutsy has fixed most of the quality issues in the Nexo. It seems that my stroller is from the first or second production and Mutsy has already addressed the glitches I've mentioned in the review.

Throughout the year, Mutsy will continue to make improvements to the Nexo, based on consumer feedback. As of now, the play on the wheels, and hence the sound, has been greatly reduced. The buckle release will be improved as well. The recline straps have already been strengthened.

This is really great news and shows that Mutsy as a company stands behind their products

I'd like to thank Mutsy for sending the Nexo for this review. As always, all the opinions are entirely my own.

Easywalker Buggy 2016 Review

Jul 19, 2016

Ever since I laid eyes on the original Easywalker Mini stroller, which was followed by Mosey and then an updated version of Mini, I was enthralled. If you're not familiar with Easywalker, it is a Dutch brand, which consistently puts out innovative, high quality strollers and accessories.

The Easywalker buggy is the brand's newest creation and I'm so excited for the opportunity to try out and review it, thanks to Baby Jungle!

You can check out my unboxing post HERE. Now, without further ado...

First Impression

Easywalker buggy review

The new Easywalker Buggy was made to turn heads! It is a fashionable buggy that you will feel proud pushing. In the world of utilitarian looking strollers, this buggy stands out with it's refined textiles, beautiful colors and leatherette details. Lest you think this stroller is all about looks, I'm happy to report that it's made with unparalleled child-comfort features. Suitable for newborns and travel system compatible, the Easywalker buggy has all the features you'd want in a compact stroller.

The buggy is available in 6 beautiful colors. I was sent Paris Brasserie and Vienna Cafe for this review. You can see more pictures of the Paris Brasserie buggy from our day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Dimensions & Weight:

  • Stroller width - 18.5"
  • Handles height - 41.5" (to the top)
  • Stroller weight - 14 lbs (6.5 kg)
  • Seat width - 12.5"
  • Seat depth - 9" (14" when leg rest is extended)
  • Seat back height - 19.5"  (27" to canopy)
  • Suitable for birth to 44 lbs (20 kg)

Seat

The seat on the Easywalker buggy is roomy and tall. It accommodates children from birth to 44 lbs (20 kg). The seat back measures 19.5" and a whooping 27" inches to canopy! That gives more head room than most strollers on the market, which means even older toddlers will fit into this stroller without having the canopy sitting on their heads.

As you can see in the pictures, both Ben (age 3.5) and Abby (otherwise known as Little Missy, age 1.5) are very comfortable in this buggy. The only place where Ben is starting to outgrow it, is in the leg room. The distance between seat edge and foot rest is 8", which is typical of most umbrella strollers.

The seat has a one-hand lever recline, which is my favorite type of recline mechanism. It adjusts to 4 positions, including completely flat, making it suitable for newborns and allowing children to stretch out comfortably for naps.

The backrest on this buggy is rigid and provides good back support. Many umbrella strollers on the market are made with a hammock-like backrest, which my kids detest.

New stroller 2016 Easywalker buggy review

The buggy also features a leg rest. It adjusts via two small levers underneath. When the leg rest is extended, the total sleeping surface is 33" inches.

Canopy

The Easywalker buggy is equipped with an XL canopy. There's an extra zip out portion, and when fully extended, the canopy provides superb protection from the elements. It is lined with the same beautiful pastel fabric as the inner sides of the seat, giving the buggy an extra pop of color.

There's a vinyl peek-a-boo window in back of the canopy. It's positioned further back than on most strollers, making it a bit challenging to see the baby when the seat is in the upright position. It's more useful when the seat is reclined.

There are also two mesh ventilation inserts for better air flow. The fabric flap in the back of the canopy can be rolled up on a hot day and there's a snap to hold it in place.

Textiles/Quality

As I mentioned earlier, the textiles on the Easywalker buggy are exquisite! Everything from the stroller outer fabric and seat to the leatherette handles and brushed aluminum frame, exudes quality.

The Easywalker Buggy is available in six colors: Paris Brasserie, Berlin Breakfast, Ibiza Brunch, Milano Melange, Vienna Cafe and Monaco Apero. Each color is so beautiful in it's own way, it's really hard to choose! The buggies have either a light grey or dark grey frame, and light grey or black leatherette covered handles.

The canopy and seat outer are made of durable fabric in refined colors. The Paris Brasserie and Vienna Cafe also feature a subtle circles print. The lining is made of smooth fabric in complimentary, pastel colors.

The seat is well padded and covered in softer, cozier fabric. Depending on the outer color of the stroller, the seat is either heather grey, or charcoal. The leg rest is also covered in a more durable, fabric that is easier to clean. Seriously, this is a buggy that you just can't take your eyes off!

Harness

The buggy is equipped with a very user friendly, 5-point harness. The upper straps and lower straps are attached to the same clip, so there's no option of using it as a 3-point harness.

Just like on my Easywalker Mini stroller, which I reviewed last year, the length of the harness is very easy to adjust and it can be done with one hand by lifting up the plastic harness thread peace which is hidden under the shoulder strap pads.

The harness pads are attached with small elastic, which prevents them from slipping down. It's a small detail, but it makes a difference!

The clasp is very easy to open and close for an adult, yet challenging for a young child. It requires squeezing the clip in two places simultaneously, which young kids are not dexterous enough to do.

Easywalker buggy review 2016

Wheels

The buggy rolls along on 4 sets of double wheels with rear-wheel suspension. The front swivel wheels can be locked in a forward-only mode for better handling of grass and mild terrain.

Frankly, the wheels are the only part of this stroller that can be improved upon. Made out of hard foam and measuring 5" (12.5 cm), these wheels are typical of most umbrella strollers. While there's nothing really wrong with them, I feel that the wheels don't quite live up to the high end feel of the rest of this buggy. It would be really great if the wheels were slightly larger and made of hard rubber.

Push/Steering

The Easywalker buggy was designed for city use. It pushes very well on smooth pavement and indoors. Anything more becomes a bit of a struggle because of the small wheel size.

Steering is best done with two hands. It's possibly to steer with one hand if necessary, but it's not very comfortable because of the horn handles. Those of you who have experience with umbrella-type strollers will know exactly what I mean.

This buggy is very stable with good weight distribution. I've hung heavy bags off the handles and the buggy does not tip over.

Handles

The EW buggy has horn handles, like most umbrella strollers. The handles are covered in leatherette, for a luxurious feel. The very top of the handles is 41.5 inches from the ground. Since I'm petite (5"2), I find the handles to be higher than I'd prefer, but for an average size parent, it should be a perfect height.

Under-seat Storage

While the under-seat basket doesn't appear all that big, it's actually decent for an umbrella stroller. It's easily accessible from the back and from the sides. In the pictures, I have my shoulder bag, a pack of baby wipes and Mr. Wolf in there with room to spare.

Easywalker buggy basket review

Break

There are two connected break pedals, one on each rear wheel. The breaks are flip-flops friendly, being chunky and having rounded edges. They make an audible click, so you know when the breaks are engaged.

Fold

The buggy has a typical umbrella-stroller fold, which can be done with your foot and with just one hand supporting the stroller. There's an auto fold lock and a carrying handle on one side in addition to a shoulder carrying strap in the back. As with most umbrella strollers, the folded stroller is narrow and long.

The down side to this type of fold is that the front wheels are resting against the canopy lining. Since it would be a shame to get such a beautiful canopy dirty, and being the crazy lady that I am, I carry along a plastic bag, which I wrap around the front wheels before folding the stroller.

Accessories

The Easywalker buggy comes with a rain shield included. A variety of other, useful accessories can be purchased separately.

Easywalker offers an optional bumper bar for their buggies, available in 5 colors. Just like the handles, the bumper bar is covered in leatherette. The bumper bar does not have gate opening, but it can be moved up or down for easier access to the seat. It does not need to be removed when folding the stroller.

I was also sent a Summer seat inlay to use with the buggy. It's made out of 3D air mesh fabric and helps to keep a child from sweating in the stroller on a hot day.

Summer breathable stroller liner by Easywalker

Another very convenient thing to have is a parent cup holder.

Parents of infants may want to use this buggy as a travel system. Easywalker  makes adapters which fit the following infant car seats: Maxi Cosi Cabrio, Maxi Cosi Pebble, Cybex Aton, BeSafe IziGo, Nuna Pipa, and Kiddy Evolution Pro.

In addition to the above mentioned accessories, Easywalker also offers a travel bag for the buggies, a snack tray,  mosquito net, sun parasol, Windshield and a Cocoon to keep baby cozy on cold days.

Conclusion & Ratings

The Easywalker buggy is a luxurious, lightweight and compact stroller, perfect for city dwellers and for travel. It allows parents to easily navigate in tight spaces and crowded places, while providing optimum comfort for a child. The narrow fold and carrying strap makes this buggy convenient for use on public transportation. The buggy can be used from birth to as long as your kids ride in a stroller, due to a flat reclining seat and ample head room.
In addition to all the great features, I think fashionable moms out there would be hard-pressed to find a more attractive umbrella stroller.

Pros:
1. Beautiful design
2. High quality textiles
3. Completely flat recline
4. One-hand recline mechanism
5. Lightweight & compact
6. Huge canopy with ventilation windows
7. Adjustable leg rest
8. Sturdy
9. Plenty of head room for taller children
10. Shoulder carrying strap
11. Easy to adjust harness
12. Flip-flop friendly break
13. Optional belly-bar
14. Car seat compatible with adapters

Cons:
1. Small wheels
2. Suspension could be softer
3. Handles too high for petite parents (not a con for everyone)

I very much enjoyed using the Easywalker buggy in the city and it would be my stroller of choice for future travel. The minor drawbacks are really just me being overly-picky and so I decided to give this buggy an overall 5 out of 5 stars rating.

Once again, I'd like to thank Babyjungle.nl for sending these buggies for a review. Baby Jungle is located in the Netherlands and ships worldwide.
